House for Dance

Dance House Helsinki will be constructed at the northeastern end of the Cable Factory

Dance House Helsinki will consist of a new building measuring more than 5,000 m2 and part of the old Cable Factory building, measuring approximately 1,500 m2, which is set to be refurbished. On completion, the main spaces will be the Erkko Hall with 700 seats, the Pannuhalli Stage with 250 seats, and an Event Square. In addition, there will be a rehearsal studio and offices.

Dance House Helsinki will become Finland’s first venue dedicated entirely to dance in which the various dance forms are well represented. It will provide an open and easily accessible meeting place for the public and a stage for high-quality performances.

Construction work began in October 2019 and will be completed in 2021. The premises of Dance House Helsinki are being built by Kiinteistö Oy Kaapelitalo. Dance House Helsinki Association will be responsible for the actual operations in the house.

Changes to the Cable Factory

Alongside the construction of Dance House Helsinki, the part of the Cable Factory’s inner courtyard that is next to the new building will be covered to create the longed-for lobby area that will be shared by all Cable Factory actors. The new lobby will make the Cable Factory more accessible and will ensure that visitors can be looked after much more efficiently. The inner courtyard can also be used for cultural activities.

The Cable Factory’s logistics will be moved to the outer rim of the building which will make the inner courtyard significantly more customer friendly as well as remove the crossings of pedestrian and vehicle traffic.

The changes will make the Cable Factory a better place to create, practise and experience culture in all its forms.
